Zurich in 3 Days – 2026 Long Weekend Itinerary

April 2025 · 7 min read

Three days in Zurich is the sweet spot - enough to see the city properly, fit in a day trip, do the Limmat Böötle, and still have time to just sit by the lake and enjoy one of Europe's most beautiful urban settings. Here's how we'd plan it.

Day 1
Old Town, Grossmünster & the Limmat

Start at the Hauptbahnhof and spend the morning in the Old Town - Lindenhof viewpoint, Grossmünster, Fraumünster (Chagall windows), and the Niederdorf lanes. Lunch at Restaurant Zeughauskeller for traditional Swiss food in a historic armoury. Afternoon: walk the lake promenade from Bürkliplatz south and take a short boat tour. Evening: dinner in the Niederdorf or Zurich West.

Day 2
Limmat Böötle - Zurich's Greatest Summer Tradition

Dedicate your second day to the Limmat Böötle. Pick up your inflatable ring, boat, or unicorn float from Smile Swim at Wipkingerweg 6 (morning or evening before), then drift 7 km down the river to Glanzenberg. Stop for a BBQ at the Grillstelle in Glanzenberg. Take the S-Bahn back (~20 min). If you have energy left, the evening is perfect for Zurich West bars and street food at Frau Gerolds Garten.

Day 3
Day Trip - Lucerne, Uetliberg, or Greifensee

Option A - Lucerne: Take the train to Lucerne (50 min). Walk the Chapel Bridge, wander the Old Town, take a boat on Lake Lucerne, and ride the cogwheel railway up Mount Rigi for Alpine views. Back in Zurich by evening.

Option B - Uetliberg + SUP: Hike Uetliberg (30 min by S-Bahn from HB) for panoramic views, then come back and take a SUP board from Smile Swim to the Greifensee - flat, calm, and stunning.

Option C - Lindt Chocolate Museum: Book ahead - it sells out fast. Factory tour, chocolate fountains, and unlimited tastings. 15 min from the city centre.

Getting Around

Zurich's tram network is world-class - frequent, punctual, and easy to use. The ZVV app makes navigation simple. Consider a Zürich Card for 24h or 72h of unlimited transport plus museum entry. The city centre is also very walkable - Old Town to lake is about 20 minutes on foot.

For your water day, check our SUP rental Zurich catalog - SUP boards, rings and boats available at Wipkingerpark, 10 minutes from Hauptbahnhof.

Don't Miss the Limmat Böötle

Reserve your float equipment at Smile Swim - evening pickup available so you're ready at the start of your Böötle day.
